Can you believe it? This year we’re celebrating the 25th anniversary of the creation of Thieves® essential oil blend by Young Living Founder and Chairman of the Board D. Gary Young!
As the world leader in essential oils, Young Living offers many innovative, one-of-a-kind products that are beloved by members spanning the globe—and Thieves essential oil blend is one of them. The creation of Young Living’s essential oil blend Thieves took a piece of history, combined it with research, and created a top-selling blend that is used in many products today.
Gary recounts the history of his formulation of this essential oil blend, which was the result of his studying at the Warwick University in London, England, in 1991 and spending many hours at the London Library researching essential oils and their history.
“I have read 17 different versions of the Thieves story,” says Gary, “some that claim there were 4 thieves and others that claim there were 40! Many of these legends took place in the 15th century, but still others put the date in the 18th century. The formulas also varied from one story to the next, each mixing in a collection of herbs and spices into a vinegar solution. Through my research I was led to four key botanicals: clove, cinnamon, rosemary, and lemon. These were mentioned again and again within the herbs combined in the vinegar solutions. I took the essential oils of those botanicals and combined them with eucalyptus essential oil to make this essential oil blend. Today it’s known throughout the world as Young Living’s Thieves.”
